![]() ![]() Nintendo chose to call this Donkey Kong II, instead of Donkey Kong Jr. There is another Game & Watch based on the Donkey Kong Jr arcade, also released in 1982.The Japanese version of the arcade features the actual names of the Nintendo dev team taking up the positions on the table.Could one of them be Luigi? Could this be Luigi's first video game appearance? In the intro to the game there are TWO Mario's pushing Donkey Kong in a cage, both wearing red & blue.I'm playing it again on Nintendo Switch through the Hamster Arcade Archives re-release which came out last week. ![]() It's quite an effort just to complete the first screen. Far more difficult than Donkey Kong arcade. ![]() Now this game is difficult, very difficult. There are four screens to progress through in the arcade game and NES game, while the Game & Watch versions are single screen. The aim of the game is for Jr to make his way to the key which then unlocks part of the cage that Mario has locked Donkey Kong in. Instead of the game being set in a city building construction site, like the original Donkey Kong game, the game is now set in the jungle, with Jr being able to climb vines. Now in a twist on the original Donkey Kong game, Mario is now the villain, Donkey Kong is the kidnapped character and Donkey Kong's son, Jr, is now the hero. The game has three main characters, Mario, Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. ![]()
